Description

A new model This graphite pencil drawing 'Nina – 09-08-23' marks something new. Not the style however. It is more or less my newly found neo-deco. Everything is a question of the model. Two weeks ago, someone responded to my last oil painting 'Neo-deco – 30-07-23'. This person was a model named 'NinaErotique'. You now know that I do not like lascivious and unartistic nudes. I am here on earth to celebrate nudity forged by superior beings as the height of beauty. Not my words but communing opinion among artists at the turn of the 20th century. Apparently she thinks in the same way. The result is a beautiful collection of tasteful paintings. Some are nudes, others deal with fashion and a bit of glamour on the side. I would certainly recommend clicking on this link or visiting her website. Dressed She has a beautiful body and appearance. However, first I was touched by a photo of her sitting wearing a sheer nightgown. She has beautiful long auburn hair that falls from her head in curly structures. Her 'profile' face looks very angelic. One must embrace happiness when it presents itself. Therefore, this work must have been the first I created of her. Even if the artistic motif has many subdued lighting, the background perfectly highlights her. So there you have it: all the good ingredients to create a work of art. However, the artistic problems are related… Tonal problems When you are about to draw or paint, everything is a matter of measuring proportions. Getting them correct, adjusting them anatomically. Often, I can spot cubist forms with which to play immediately. This time, there was no exception to these principles. However, I quickly realized that the hair, the clothes, the facial expressions were depicted in the smallest tonal bands. In the statement of my last drawing, I expressed my concerns about the forms becoming too bumpy. That is why I took extra precautions to avoid that at all costs. Let it breathe This time too, I let the positive forms breathe in the negative space. Alongside that, I kept the general tone not too low, which gave a clearer representation than the motif itself. Finally but no less important, I applied only a light cubist style. The forms that the hair, the face, and the nightgown offered were so hybrid that I did not dare to abstract them too much. Nevertheless my hand is recognizable and Nina is too. Presentation

Corné Akkers was born in 1969 in Nijmegen, Netherlands. He grew up in a Bohemian environment, during the 70's. This ideal creative atmosphere inspired him and gave him the desire to paint. He trained in painting and drawing.

In his paintings, the artist explores the nude and portrait with several types of analysis and treatments, and doesn't lose sight on how light plays an important role. He combines the figurative style and the quest for abstraction, he plays around with colors and creates vast optical illusions. Not only is his work unique, his paintings shout out cubism but also surrealism and fauvism. They are so hypnotic that they are able to capture the look.

While working as a painter, Akkers also teach art at Voorburg in Netherlands. His paintings have been exhibited several times and sold to art collectors, all around the world.
