Thom Thom

France Born in: 1973
Thom Thom (Thomas Schmitt) is a French street artist born in 1973.
Thom Thom lives and works in Paris, he has been doing advertising posters, for the last 15 years, he is the founder of the association M.U.R.

Working on billboards, Thom Thom started working in collaboration with Jacques Villegle, the famous Parisian posters décollagiste. The simplest urban material became an excuse to create for these two artists. Inspired by the major trends of the twentieth century, "The artist of the cutter" finds its roots in the New Realists or the Situationists.

His technique depends on chance: his tool, the blade, places layer after layer over the posters to transform them into new pieces. With every stroke of blade, a new tile is placed on the original image, as if the artist knew what he would find under the posters.
