Sergio Ceccotti is an Italian artist born in Rome in 1935. He lives and works in Rome.
Sergio Ceccotti is the painter of normality. Based on the banality of daily life, his pictorial fictions reveal paradoxes and fears of our time.
Many of his artworks are set in Rome or Paris, which offer real movie sets for his narrations. By subtle distortions of reality, Sergio Ceccotti highlights the unusual everyday life which lies in an overflow of banality or in the enigmatic presence of familiar objects. Full of allusions to comics, film noir, literary references, media coverage and photo romances, he instills doubt into the viewer's mind, trapped in a complex network of correspondences.
Influenced by the New Objectivity, the eerie atmospheres of Giorgio de Chirico and the American pop art, Sergio Ceccotti proposes an overall vision of heterogeneous aspects of rationalized metropolitan lives. Under his brushstroke, the most insignificant of objects can explode all our certainties.
