"Just human" is an original contemporary portrait painting by Natalya Mougenot, featuring an expressive portrait of a human figure created with acrylics and pens on heavyweight, acid-free 29.7 x 42 cm (11.7 x 16.5 inches) French paper.

The title Just human is a powerful statement on our shared identity. It refers to the fundamental truth that every person—regardless of gender, race, religion, or country of birth—arrives on this planet as a blank slate. We are not defined by the categories society places upon us, but rather by the unique, quiet landscape of who we truly are inside.

This piece serves as a stripped-back meditation on that universal essence, peeling away the external labels to reveal the raw, honest spirit underneath.

By moving away from realistic, anatomical representation, Natalya employs emotional distortion as a tool for truth-telling. By slightly shifting features or elongating the lines of the face, she captures the internal tensions and private moods that define a person's presence, prioritizing the "truth of the feeling" over a literal, physical likeness.

This approach speaks to the viewer's intuition; by choosing to distort the surface, she allows us to bypass simple physical labels and instead confront a deeper question: "What does this feel like?"

The result is a vulnerable, honest encounter that turns the human face into a vessel for the complexities, uncertainties, and endurance of a life lived. When you look at Just human, you see a portrait that values raw sincerity over polished perfection.

The bold, sunny yellow background and rhythmic, energetic linework create an atmosphere that feels both vibrant and deeply intimate. It is an invitation to look past the masks we wear in daily life and connect with the subject's inner world, reminding us that, at our core, we are all just human.

This painting acts as a mirror for our own inner lives, making it a perfect addition for any interior that values art that feels alive, brave, and deeply meaningful.
