Original Contemporary Figurative Painting of a Woman, 50 × 50 cm (19.7 × 19.7 inches), Acrylic and Acrylic Pen on Professional Acid-Free French Paper
By French Artist Natalya Mougenot
Part of her ongoing series dedicated to women, Pure Joy is a vibrant contemporary figurative work exploring authenticity, emotional freedom, and the profound beauty of embracing one's true self. Created with acrylic paints and acrylic pens on heavyweight professional acid-free French paper, this expressive composition embodies Natalya Mougenot's intuitive artistic practice, where emotion guides the creative process and each painting unfolds organically through gesture, color, and instinct.
Bathed in luminous yellows, warm peaches, and soft pinks, the composition depicts a young woman resting on a sunlit beach, immersed in a moment of complete ease and contentment.
At the heart of Pure Joy lies a reflection on genuine happiness—not the happiness we perform for others, but the honest, unfiltered joy that emerges when we allow ourselves to simply be. Free from expectations, judgment, and the pressures of daily life, the young woman embodies a state of authenticity that is both deeply personal and universally recognizable.
Natalya Mougenot's artistic process is rooted in intuition. Rather than beginning with a rigid plan or narrative, she approaches each work as a journey of discovery. Through spontaneous brushwork, expressive mark-making, and energetic acrylic pen lines, she captures emotions as they arise, preserving the vitality and immediacy of the creative moment. The visible traces of this process become an essential part of the artwork, conveying movement, freedom, and emotional truth.
The artist's ongoing exploration of women is, in many ways, an exploration of herself. The female figures that inhabit her work serve as emotional landscapes through which she investigates vulnerability, resilience, memory, joy, transformation, and self-discovery. They are not portraits of specific individuals but reflections of shared human experiences.
As Natalya Mougenot says:
"Every woman I paint is, in some way, a fragment of myself."
And:
"I am not interested in painting how women look. I am interested in painting how they feel."
These words resonate throughout Pure Joy, where the young woman resting on the beach becomes more than a figure within a landscape. She becomes an embodiment of an emotional state—a visual expression of presence, freedom, and inner harmony.
Pure Joy will appeal to collectors of contemporary figurative art, expressive painting, and works that explore the emotional dimensions of the human experience. It particularly resonates with those who value authenticity, spontaneity, and the ability of art to communicate feelings that transcend words.
Collectors drawn to contemporary female artists, intuitive creative practices, and themes of self-discovery, emotional freedom, and feminine strength will find a meaningful connection with this work. Its uplifting energy and universal message make it equally attractive to seasoned collectors and first-time buyers seeking an artwork with both aesthetic presence and emotional depth.
With its luminous palette and joyful atmosphere, Pure Joy is ideally suited to contemporary, modern, Scandinavian, organic modern, coastal, and curated eclectic interiors. The painting brings warmth, movement, and light to a space while serving as a striking focal point.
Whether displayed in a living room, bedroom, reading corner, creative studio, wellness space, boutique hotel, or gallery-inspired interior, the work creates an atmosphere of serenity, optimism, and emotional connection. Its radiant colors pair beautifully with natural materials, neutral palettes, and light-filled environments.
More than a depiction of a young woman resting on a beach, Pure Joy is a celebration of authenticity—a reminder that true happiness is found in those rare moments when we allow ourselves to be fully present, fully honest, and fully alive. Through color, intuition, and emotional sincerity, Natalya Mougenot invites viewers to reconnect with their own capacity for joy.

Collector’s Guide
Natalya is a contemporary french artist living in Lyon.
She was born and grew up in Kazakhstan, the country known for its spacious steppes.
She arrived in France 2003. Since that moment she loves her adoptive country.
She started painting in 2017 and used it as a therapeutic and emotional release during times of crisis. She incorporates this therapeutic approach in her artistic creative process till now.
In her artistic practice she refers to the terms of metamodernism, which proposes to look at the world from the position of the inner adult.
As an artist and as a woman she translates the experience of her personal search for balance based on harmony between mind, soul and body. This balance, in her opinion, is the pillar for the inner adult.
Important components of her work are authenticity, soulfulness, sincerity, emotionality and honesty. She immerses the objects and the characters in the world where there is no falsity, rudeness, loneliness and indifference.
She works rapidly and is constantly sensitive to the details.
Her artistic process is a fine balance between a pre-meditation and spontantainty which helps her to create her expressive atmospheric artworks with a modern touch of impressionism by cultivating a naive art approach.
