Description
A striking study of contrast and stillness. This oil painting presents a surreal encounter between two disparate elements. A deep blue garment hangs suspended from a thin line. Its heavy folds create a rhythmic flow of shadow and light. Below it sits a lush green cactus. The plant rises with a sculptural presence. Its textured surface catches the light in delicate specks.
The composition balances the fluid drape of fabric against the rigid organic form of the flora. A neutral background strips away distraction. This void pushes the subjects forward. It creates a mysterious atmosphere where everyday objects become symbolic. The artist employs a refined academicism to explore the poetry of the mundane. Each brushstroke emphasizes the material difference between the soft textile and the prickly skin of the cactus. This artwork invites a meditative gaze. It transforms a simple domestic scene into an experimental research on form and color. The tension lies in the silence of the arrangement. The vibrant blue echoes the natural green against a muted, atmospheric space.
Presentation
Claudine Picard is a French artist born in 1949 who lives and works in Sainte Marie, France. She is graduatedfrom the Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs (ENSAD). Nature is for the artiste an infinite source of inspiration. Her work is experimental research, she is inspired by everyday life through figurative expression as a revisited academicism. Claudine provokes the imagination and the reminiscence of memories, lost and poetic emotions by matching symbolic subjects with inhabited and mysterious objects. These in their immobile presence and the fixity of their stripping induces a fascination. Still life immerses us in an atmosphere where the components chosen by associations of shapes and climates resonate each others. Painting is for the artist the search for an aesthetic emotion. As in the way of naturalists entomologists or botanists, she groupes by themes and materials, elements that make up her paintings.
