Description

A deep immersion in a nocturnal blue. This acrylic composition on canvas plays with transparency and superposition. The eye scans suggested geometric planes. Diagonal lines cut through the space with precision. 
The light seems to filter through layers of vaporous paint. The contrast between dark areas and bright flashes creates a visual relief. The gesture is controlled. The balance rests on a tension between structural rigor and atmospheric fluidity.
The artist explores a serene abstraction here. The saturated background brings a contemplative dimension. Each shade enriches the depth of the field.
This canvas dated 191 testifies to a research on perception. The surface reveals traces of light and diffused brushes. The whole is framed by a tone-on-tone border that emphasizes the central composition.

Presentation

Jean-Claude Coutaz was born in 1944 in Saint-Maurice VS. He began his studies at the Collège de Saint-Maurice following the classical Latin-English track, continued them at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (EPFL) from which he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering.

It was in 1972 that he settled in Sion with his wife and opened his own engineering office.

JCC began painting in 1980 and since then his technique has continued to evolve.
