Description
Gestural abstraction is expressed here through a subtle chromatic dialogue. The canvas articulates a play of transparencies and superpositions. Ocher and earthy tones intertwine with a dull green. The gesture is free. It oscillates between control and surrender. A broad green stroke cleaves the composition. This organic form structures the space while allowing the light background to breathe. Vertical drips bring a natural dynamism. They evoke the passage of time and impermanence. A fine, dark circle punctuates the whole, creating a visual anchor point. The material densifies in places, where the acrylic and oil meet. The contrasts are soft, almost vaporous. The balance plays between the full and the empty. The whole exudes a contemplative serenity. The composition invites an intuitive reading of the forms. This additive painting reveals a deep exploration of trace and memory. The final rendering presents a textured aspect, marked by splashes and areas of erasure. The work is made with oil and acrylic on canvas.
This work shows the force fully deployed and assumed. The pictorial gesture is inscribed with power, amplitude, and assurance in the space, illustrating the perfectly accomplished transition between inner restraint and radiance in the world.
Presentation
Fanny Marchand is a Canadian-French painter based in Montreal, whose practice is within gestural and textured contemporary abstraction. Her work explores the tension, transformation, memory, and invisible forces that shape human journeys.
Through matter, gesture, superimpositions, and contrasts, she builds compositions where control and abandon, presence and effacement, force and vulnerability meet.
Nourished by her travels, multiculturalism, street art, as well as by the notions of imperfection and impermanence, her pictorial research develops an increasingly refined language, in which void, trace, and matter occupy a central place.
In 2026, she is continuing this evolution within the framework of individual coaching with the international artist Sébastien Cheramy, particularly deepening composition, gesture, formal reduction, and series coherence.
With a professional background of over twenty years in strategy and transformation, Fanny Marchand also approaches the development of her artistic career with a structured and long-term vision. Her positioning is intentionally within a professional approach aimed at the contemporary art market, with the ambition of developing lasting relationships with galleries, collectors, and investors, in Canada and internationally.
Her work has been exhibited in Quebec and is generating growing interest from galleries and private collectors, both in Canada and internationally.
