Description
Gestural abstraction is expressed here through a dialogue between control and abandonment. The canvas is structured around a natural palette where shades of green and beige dominate. Vertical drips rhythmize the composition. They bring an organic and spontaneous dimension to the whole.
The gaze is guided by fine black lines. These traces intertwine and create a graphic tension on the light background. A dark, almost opaque area anchors the composition on the left. It contrasts with projections of white and areas of transparency.
The work on the material suggests the passage of time and memory. The superposition of layers of oil and acrylic creates a subtle depth. The void occupies an essential place to let the forms breathe. Each mark becomes the witness of a precise movement. This painting of 2026 explores the fragile balance between presence and effacement. Paying homage to the resilience of women in the face of social resistance, this piece uses the metaphor of the pearl forming around an irritation in the material. It materializes the drive of those who fight to conquer their own space and make their voices heard.
Presentation
Fanny Marchand is a Canadian-French painter based in Montreal, whose practice is within gestural and textured contemporary abstraction. Her work explores the tension, transformation, memory, and invisible forces that shape human journeys.
Through matter, gesture, superimpositions, and contrasts, she builds compositions where control and abandon, presence and effacement, force and vulnerability meet.
Nourished by her travels, multiculturalism, street art, as well as by the notions of imperfection and impermanence, her pictorial research develops an increasingly refined language, in which void, trace, and matter occupy a central place.
In 2026, she is continuing this evolution within the framework of individual coaching with the international artist Sébastien Cheramy, particularly deepening composition, gesture, formal reduction, and series coherence.
With a professional background of over twenty years in strategy and transformation, Fanny Marchand also approaches the development of her artistic career with a structured and long-term vision. Her positioning is intentionally within a professional approach aimed at the contemporary art market, with the ambition of developing lasting relationships with galleries, collectors, and investors, in Canada and internationally.
Her work has been exhibited in Quebec and is generating growing interest from galleries and private collectors, both in Canada and internationally.
