Description
This abstract painting exudes an avant-garde mastery that captivates and intrigues. The artwork, predominantly characterized by a vivid interplay of textures and colors, demonstrates an experimental approach to form and contrast. The canvas is dominated by a bold and dynamic array of brush strokes that interweave fluidly, creating a sense of organized chaos. The left side features a concentration of darker hues, predominantly blacks and deep blues, arranged in a seemingly random pattern that, upon closer inspection, reveals a subtle underlying structure. The central area transitions into a more complex amalgamation of smeared and dripped colors, with splashes of red, pink, and hints of grey. This central motif evokes an ambiguous form, almost resembling a cryptic calligraphic script or a fragmented image, challenging the viewer to decipher its hidden meanings. Towards the right, elongated strokes of blue and black rise and fall, resembling vertical pillars or cascading waterfalls. This juxtaposition of verticality and fluidity imparts a dynamic rhythm to the piece, leading the eye across the canvas in a continuous motion. The subtle overlay of lighter shades, particularly the soft whites and pale blues that ebb and flow through the composition, provides a delicate contrast, softening the intensity of the darker elements. The interplay of light and shadow within the painting adds depth and dimension, creating a multi-layered visual experience that encourages prolonged observation. Every inch of the canvas is utilized to evoke emotion and contemplation, making this artwork a compelling study of abstract expressionism. It challenges the conventional boundaries of form and color, inviting viewers into an immersive and introspective visual journey. This piece is unequivocally a testament to the artist's skill in manipulating texture and color to evoke a powerful, visceral response, leaving a lasting impression on all who engage with it.
Presentation
My name is Michael R. Grine and I am an process oriented artist. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas.
Statement
Curiosity. Emotion. Experimentation. Exploration. Leap of faith. Pursuit of knowledge. These words only begin to describe what my art signifies or represents. I was born an artist and have always identified myself as an artist. I possess an insatiable creative drive to make art out of the images I see in my mind. To help satisfy this impulse, I am always exploring new places and trying new things. Having freedom of expression and not being limited to one style or technique of making art are paramount to my identity as an artist. I love the many different processes of making art and experimenting with new ways of creating art.
My inspiration stems from color, music, literature, and the excitement about the unknown possibilities of taking everyday objects and using them in a way that differs from what the manufacturer intended. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas. Some of my methods include combining different chemicals and paint on paper or in plastic or wood box frames to distort vivid colors that are mixed or thrown right on the canvas. The result is the distortion of lines and contours, and layers of translucent or opaque paints on the canvas or in random patterns.
