Description
Mario Tarantino has, with this contemporary black and white photograph, captured the monumental vision of Santiago Calatrava, contrasting it with a solitary passerby. The sheer scale made tangible by her presence, both deepening the visual narrative, bringing a cinematic quality to the scene. It is within that balance that the image finds its meaning. "Haven" is part of his award-winning "Scale of Space" series, selected for Artsper's Futurist collection.
The vast sweeping curves of the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia rise above the figure, provoking thoughts of shelter and refuge, the minimalist composition perfectly symmetrical, the atmosphere surreal and futurist, yet grounded in the everyday that surrounds us.
A perfectionist by nature, Mario brings the same rigour to the printing process as he does to every stage of his creative practice. Each photograph is giclée printed with archival pigment inks on Hahnemühle Photo Rag, a 308gsm acid and lignin-free 100% cotton paper, its vast tonal spectrum replicating every nuanced contrast, from deep blacks to luminous whites. Working alongside a master printer, each fine art print is brought to life with care and precision, the result a museum grade artwork produced to the highest archival standard.
"Haven" is an award-winning work held in corporate and private collections, issued in a limited edition of 20 fine art prints. Mario meticulously inspects each print before it is named, numbered and hand-signed. Each piece is sent with its own certificate of authenticity, stamped and signed, ensuring both the artwork's value and origin.
Presentation
Mario Tarantino's distinctive contemporary photography is expressed through his use of negative space, minimalist compositions, and striking contrasts. His relentless pursuit of the surreal allows him to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary, creating captivating visuals that offer moments of aesthetic escapism. Working primarily in monochrome, his images are bold yet balanced, creating a visual language that has earned him numerous international awards, including multiple recognitions as Photographer of the Year.
Exhibited in cities such as Tokyo, Budapest, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and Athens, his work has reached a global audience while also becoming part of both corporate and private collections worldwide. His artistic vision resonates strongly with photography collectors who seek not only technical excellence but the ability of an image to linger, to suggest, and to evoke.
His artistic perspective unfolds across three main genres—architecture, landscape, and street photography each approached in a purist manner, using minimal elements in seeking to capture the sublime through simplicity. Much of his work is created under low light conditions, where the soft illumination gives rise to evocative imagery with a futuristic atmosphere that has become his hallmark.
His fascination with the interplay of light and shadow, texture, tone, and form is reflected in every piece, revealing his profound love of aesthetic photography. Mario uses his camera as a painter does a brush, not only to capture an image but to convey an idea, an inner vision or share their unique sense of beauty.
