Quiet breakfast, 2025

Natalya Mougenot   Best sellers

This contemporary fine art still life photo was taken by French artist and photographer Natalya Mougenot and forms part of her series dedicated to simple things in life.

Natalya shares: “In all my photography practice, I capture real scenes from real life. Nothing is staged, and I seek authenticity and honesty."

She adds: “I feel my mission is to remind people to cherish the simple things in life, like this humble breakfast with a steaming morning cup of coffee, a bowl of cream cheese, and some fresh fruits and nuts."

She continues: “I truly loved the atmosphere here: wooden rustic furniture, warm light — a perfect place for contemplation, cozy, inviting ambiance "

This artwork vividly captures a tranquil café scene, inviting viewers into a moment of serene reflection.  The contrast between rustic textures and smooth ceramics creates a visually striking balance, while the warm tones of the wood, paired with the crisp white of the cup, guide the eye naturally through the scene. The precise focus on the coffee cup conveys warmth and hospitality, transforming this everyday moment into a celebration of life's simple pleasures.

About the Artist:

Originally from Pavlodar, Kazakhstan, and now based in Lyon, France, Natalya Mougenot has spent over two decades refining her artistic voice. Her multicultural background and personal experience inform her bold, expressive works, which have found homes in private collections around the world.

Natalya's distinctive visual language blends Abstract Expressionism, Impressionism, Art Naïf, and Art Brut—resulting in paintings that are raw, instinctive, and emotionally resonant. Across her work, three values guide her: authenticity, sincerity, and honesty.

“Authenticity is everything," she says. “People can always feel when something is real—or when it's not. I want my work to be honest, to come from a place that's true."

In addition to painting, Natalya is also a passionate photographer. Her photographic work—also featured on this platform—mirrors her painterly sensibility: a poetic, observational approach that captures the quiet power of everyday life. For her, photography is both inspiration and a form of presence, often serving as visual sketches for future paintings or existing as standalone works.
