Description

A little mystery This graphite drawing 'Clingendael – 15-11-23' is the second consecutive impressionist drawing. The previous one from Amsterdam was already devoid of any cubist style. This one is no different. However, the landscape is different. This one is close to my home. Clingendael is just around the corner and I stay there often. Fortunately, it offers all the good things a park can offer: trees, meadows, a house, water and reflections. Especially those I like best. They are a little mysterious. What is reflected is different from what is hidden beneath the surface. I always have to think of 'De Koele Meren des Doods', indicating the light reflected on the lakes, canals and ponds. The living light is on one side and in the depth the darkness and death as two sides of a coin. A6 It happened that I forgot to bring my sketchbook A5 to Brugman where I teach. I had time before the art course started, so I bought an A6. In fact, it was a while ago that I was working on this small paper. Probably in 2019 when I also made impressionist works of Kethel and Amsterdam that I even sold. Because of the size and resolution of the paper, you get these incredible grainy textures. It works almost like an impressionist filter. Something difficult to exaggerate because that is exactly what I want for landscapes in general. I often see contour lines in the works of others that are also hard and defined. Therefore, I always pay attention to avoiding those. Rather avoid too many details but only suggest them as leaves on a branch. I finished this one in one go. Presentation

Corné Akkers was born in 1969 in Nijmegen, Netherlands. He grew up in a Bohemian environment, during the 70's. This ideal creative atmosphere inspired him and gave him the desire to paint. He trained in painting and drawing.

In his paintings, the artist explores the nude and portrait with several types of analysis and treatments, and doesn't lose sight on how light plays an important role. He combines the figurative style and the quest for abstraction, he plays around with colors and creates vast optical illusions. Not only is his work unique, his paintings shout out cubism but also surrealism and fauvism. They are so hypnotic that they are able to capture the look.

While working as a painter, Akkers also teach art at Voorburg in Netherlands. His paintings have been exhibited several times and sold to art collectors, all around the world.
