There is no single moment in which we become who we are. We are shaped slowly, through encounters, absences, tenderness, loss, memory and the invisible traces left by those who pass through our lives. We are constantly becoming. This idea lies at the heart of Ritchelly Oliveira's work. Rather than portraying individuals, Oliveira paints emotional landscapes. His figures exist between presence and absence, between intimacy and silence, carrying within them the invisible weight of memory. Rendered with remarkable technical precision in charcoal, acrylic and oil, these portraits transcend realism to reveal something far less tangible: the emotional architecture of being human. His practice is rooted in an ongoing exploration of affection, vulnerability and healing, where painting becomes a space for reflection, reconciliation and transformation. Throughout his career, Oliveira has described his work not as an attempt to reproduce reality, but as a way of giving form to what cannot easily be spoken. His portraits emerge from conversations about love, absence, fear and longing, experiences that, while deeply personal, belong to all of us. The recurring birds that inhabit his compositions are not symbols of freedom, but echoes of emotional wounds that continue to accompany us, reminding us that every relationship leaves its mark. In Becoming, the artist presents a body of work that reflects this continuous evolution. Each painting is less a conclusion than a fragment of an ongoing dialogue, between the self and the other, between fragility and resilience, between what is remembered and what still seeks to be understood. There is no certainty here, only openness: an invitation to embrace vulnerability not as weakness, but as one of the most profound expressions of our humanity. As visitors move through the exhibition, they are invited to slow down. To recognise themselves in these silent encounters. To acknowledge that every life is unfinished, every identity in motion, every heart still learning. Perhaps becoming is not about arriving somewhere. Perhaps becoming is simply the courage to remain open, to love, to change and to begin again.
