Description
March of Liberation Day This graphite pencil drawing 'Beek - 09-05-24' is a bit of cubism placed in an atmospheric depth. Last weekend, I went out to see landscapes with my father. Park: Berg en Dal and Beek-Ubbergen. We parked on the Rijksstraatweg and walked to the Filosofendal. It was on May 5th, Liberation Day. Not a particularly beautiful day though. At first, it was cloudy and I saw dark clouds beginning to appear. Later, during this walk, the sun appeared. Suddenly, there was enough sun to take superb reference photos of landscapes of trees and hills. There was also Huis Wylerberg which caught my attention. It will surely become one of those villas in the future. Maybe even make a pastel of a place I discovered. There, in a meadow, you look just above the house and the Ooijpolder. That will be later. First, my artistic considerations on this subject. Returning to my car, there was that magnificent weeping willow with some houses in the background. I immediately thought of a previous tree landscape I made, called 'Kethel - 13-07-19 (Sold)'. This time, I thought that the triangular roof shapes contrasted perfectly with everything circular in the tree. Maybe it has become something more realistic. At least less abstract than the Kethel piece. However, there is a lot of abstraction, especially in the foliage and the small branches. Finally, I softened the houses and the tree in the back right. They demanded too much attention. It is always difficult to refine these things. Too much and it will compete with the main theme. Too little and you cannot have secondary elements that effectively support this main theme. Presentation
Corné Akkers was born in 1969 in Nijmegen, Netherlands. He grew up in a Bohemian environment, during the 70's. This ideal creative atmosphere inspired him and gave him the desire to paint. He trained in painting and drawing.
In his paintings, the artist explores the nude and portrait with several types of analysis and treatments, and doesn't lose sight on how light plays an important role. He combines the figurative style and the quest for abstraction, he plays around with colors and creates vast optical illusions. Not only is his work unique, his paintings shout out cubism but also surrealism and fauvism. They are so hypnotic that they are able to capture the look.
While working as a painter, Akkers also teach art at Voorburg in Netherlands. His paintings have been exhibited several times and sold to art collectors, all around the world.
