Description

Maassluis – 08-06-21 An incredible search This graphite drawing by Maassluis is an intermediate exercise. I find myself in this incredible search to capture the Cubist essence of Geesje Kwak in oil. To represent this city in a similar way in terms of design and ambition. Lately, I am fantasizing about the combination of "realism" or what realism could mean for an artist and my round style. I find myself curiously linked to the Buddhist at the hot-dog stand ordering everything. Maybe there is something to see with having explored many styles such as realism, impressionism, cubism and then something else. Why wouldn't I want exactly that: one with everything? Maassluis Even if Maassluis is not far, I have never visited the place until a few years ago. This is where I made my first drawing of the place. The mindset I had was to render the trees in a Cubist way. I kept other elements such as the buildings, boats, and water realistic or impressionistic at least. That way, the Cubist tree becomes an integral part of the realistic representation rather than an annoying deviation from it. That is my goal at least and it is for the viewer to judge. Progression Certainly I can see that I have progressed in techniques and artistic conception since then. The drawings of the recent past seem more elaborate like Park Leeuwenbergh. The reason may lie either in taking more time and patience to settle things, or in being conservative. For the latter, I mean that each style can start with a rough edge. Over time, we tend to polish it, to extend the possibilities to the maximum in that certain style. That is, until everything has been rushed and becomes almost rendered in a reserved way. Obviously, I hope that will not be the case in the current situation where I find myself. I like to progress from here and find the joy of the sketch and find new things. Whatever the case, that will be for and will be judged later. First, I have to go back to Geesje Kwak and start a new drawing to pass the time when I am not behind my canvas. Corné Akkers

Netherlands  • 1969

Presentation

Corné Akkers was born in 1969 in Nijmegen, Netherlands. He grew up in a Bohemian environment, during the 70's. This ideal creative atmosphere inspired him and gave him the desire to paint. He trained in painting and drawing.

In his paintings, the artist explores the nude and portrait with several types of analysis and treatments, and doesn't lose sight on how light plays an important role. He combines the figurative style and the quest for abstraction, he plays around with colors and creates vast optical illusions. Not only is his work unique, his paintings shout out cubism but also surrealism and fauvism. They are so hypnotic that they are able to capture the look.

While working as a painter, Akkers also teach art at Voorburg in Netherlands. His paintings have been exhibited several times and sold to art collectors, all around the world.
