Above the Provence, 2026

"Above the Provence" is an original French landscape painting inspired by the summer nature of Provence, with its cypresses, rich blooming vegetation, and luminous atmosphere, as well as by Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Fauvism, Naive Art, Matisse, and Cézanne. Created by artist Natalya Mougenot on heavyweight professional acid-free paper  the painting reflects the beauty and energy of the French countryside through a contemporary artistic vision.

Inspired by the freedom of Impressionist light, the structure of Cézanne, the vibrant color of Matisse and Fauvism, and the direct simplicity of Naive Art, the painting becomes a personal and expressive interpretation of Provence. The cypress trees, rolling forms, and radiant colors evoke the warmth, abundance, and poetic mood of a French summer landscape.

Protected with varnish, the work combines acrylic paints and acrylic pens to create a vivid, layered surface full of movement and color. The luminous sky, stylized hills, and expressive trees show how these influences come together in a language that is both poetic and instinctive.

This artwork reflects Natalya Mougenot's unique style through freedom of expression, spontaneous gesture, and intuitive creation. Rather than aiming for strict realism, she lets color, line, and emotion flow naturally, giving the painting a sincere, alive, and highly personal character. As Natalya says, “My art is rooted in honesty and authenticity, values that are also central to metamodernism."

Painted on paper in A3 format, this artwork is easy to frame with many ready-made options. It pairs beautifully with a slim modern frame for a clean contemporary look, a natural wood frame for a warm organic feel, or a white or black frame for a timeless gallery-style presentation. It is ideal for art lovers who appreciate expressive landscape and abstract-inspired painting, and it suits interiors that seek color, movement, and artistic character, including living rooms, bedrooms, creative studios, and elegant modern spaces.
