Gods of Suburbia
This collection compares extraordinary personalities with suburban life. Through a series of striking photographs, Goldstein challenges notions of contemporary belief, juxtaposing iconic gods and goddesses from various cultures with the mundane reality of suburban existence. This collection scrapes the veneer of our culture, revealing the aspirations, struggles and desires of modern society against a backdrop that is both familiar and surreal.
In this series, Goldstein inspires viewers to question the meaning and relevance of ancient myths and deities in our lives today, highlighting the contemporary quest for identity, power and purpose within the framework of ordinary routines of suburban life. The clash between the divine and the profane highlights the universal human quest for meaning and the desire to transcend the limits of the everyday. “Gods of Suburbia” challenges preconceptions about divinity and prompts deeper reflection on the intricacies of the human condition in the modern world.
Dina Goldstein is an Israeli artist born in 1969 in Tel Aviv.
After a career in photo-journalism and publishing, Dina Goldstein's pop surrealistic photos have become a true witness of the human condition, and trigger feelings like anger, shame, shock and empathy, when a spectator looks at them.
