Description
There is an energy to "Dune" that is immediate and undeniable. This award-winning black and white contemporary photograph from Mario Tarantino's "Archstract" series transforms a building facade into something altogether more organic, futurist in feel, bold in contrast, alive with movement.
Selected for Artsper's Pattern Play collection, "Dune" finds its origins in a celebrated landmark of contemporary British architecture. Mario's purposeful photographic composition uses the aluminium discs to generate a hypnotic visual rhythm. His eye for architecture finds the surreal and the abstract, steel and concrete being transformed into the undulating form of a wave or a dune.
This abstract photograph is giclée printed with archival pigment inks on Hahnemühle Photo Rag, a 308gsm acid and lignin-free 100% cotton paper. Its smooth matte finish and outstanding pictorial depth produce detailed darks and luminous whites with exceptional definition, making it Mario's paper of choice. The use of premium base materials and first in class technology results in a museum grade artwork that will not degrade over time.
Mario gives each artwork his personal attention before it leaves the studio, naming, numbering and hand-signing each piece. Part of an edition of 20, each is accompanied by a signed and stamped certificate of authenticity.
Presentation
Mario Tarantino's distinctive contemporary photography is expressed through his use of negative space, minimalist compositions, and striking contrasts. His relentless pursuit of the surreal allows him to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary, creating captivating visuals that offer moments of aesthetic escapism. Working primarily in monochrome, his images are bold yet balanced, creating a visual language that has earned him numerous international awards, including multiple recognitions as Photographer of the Year.
Exhibited in cities such as Tokyo, Budapest, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and Athens, his work has reached a global audience while also becoming part of both corporate and private collections worldwide. His artistic vision resonates strongly with photography collectors who seek not only technical excellence but the ability of an image to linger, to suggest, and to evoke.
His artistic perspective unfolds across three main genres—architecture, landscape, and street photography each approached in a purist manner, using minimal elements in seeking to capture the sublime through simplicity. Much of his work is created under low light conditions, where the soft illumination gives rise to evocative imagery with a futuristic atmosphere that has become his hallmark.
His fascination with the interplay of light and shadow, texture, tone, and form is reflected in every piece, revealing his profound love of aesthetic photography. Mario uses his camera as a painter does a brush, not only to capture an image but to convey an idea, an inner vision or share their unique sense of beauty.
