Angela Morris-Winmill
is a unique mixed-media artwork by British artist Angela Morris-Winmill, combining antique cartography, contemporary screen printing and gold leaf. Created on an original antique map, the work features a vibrant view across the River Thames towards London's iconic Oxo Tower, reimagining a familiar city landmark through layers of history and craftsmanship.
The antique map forms both the foundation and narrative of the piece. Its folds, creases and signs of age are carefully preserved and highlighted with gold leaf, inspired by the Japanese philosophy of kintsugi, where repair becomes an integral part of an object's story rather than something to be hidden.
Printed in vivid pink, the contemporary cityscape creates a striking contrast against the aged map beneath, bringing new energy to the historic surface. By layering a modern view of London onto vintage cartography, Morris-Winmill creates a dialogue between past and present, exploring memory, place and the evolving identity of the city.
Rich in colour, texture and craftsmanship, is a distinctive example of Morris-Winmill's contemporary practice, transforming historic maps into striking works of art that celebrate both heritage and modern life.

Presentation
Growing up in the outback of Australia, Angela Morris-Winmill learned about the delicate relationship between humans and our natural environment from an early age. When water and food weren’t always a ready commodity, taking only what was needed and leaving zero waste was a lifetime policy which has continued to influence her work to this day since migrating to the UK.
In Angela's latest series she juxtaposes brightly coloured, screen prints of iconic London buildings against a genuine, antique map background to highlight how a city is timeless but ever-changing at the same time.
These prints are hand pulled by the artist and she has also finished them with gold leaf, filling in the wears and tears that come with a lifetime of use to guide the audience's eye towards how beautiful this aspect of a map is.
