Description

New Addition This graphite drawing 'Duivelsberg – 25-12-23' is my most recent addition to my Berg en Dal series in constant growth. The last pastel was pleasant to do and I am quite inspired to expand the series with new ones. The landscape has everything a landscape artist could desire. Even small streams with wonderful reflections of water flow through them. I am a great defender of this region. I often live there except today. Who is Christmas anyway. It is dark outside, so I will stick to a reference photo from before that I used for this one. Drawing During Christmas The latest works consist of two pastels and an oil painting. 'Sinterklaas in Voorburg – 03-12-23' was my last graphite drawing. This is due to my intention to pick up my pastel chalks once again. Sometimes, one simply forgets a certain medium. With one in progress, I feel confident to make a small deviation to graphite again. In addition to that, I am with my parents now and television shows do not appeal to me much. What is there for an artist during such holidays than sipping an Irish coffee and simply drawing? Towards the East The latest works dealing with this area were located to the West. I thought it was time to make a sketch of Duivelsberg to the east of Berg en Dal. Do you remember the scene. 'Beek – 21-07-19' is made on practically the same location as this one. The dominant tree in the middle of the drawing is the same anyway. There is that path leading to the Filosofendal. From there, I took a photo in the direction of that tree as well. Artistic Approach Concerning my artistic approach, there was a good distribution of tonal values with which I could work. In the foreground, there were many beautiful dark tonal areas. These are the leafy structures in the upper part of the corner and the lower part formed by the path. The goal was to make it not cubist like the previous one but impressionistic. These decisions came by a real whim. I think I have fallen in love with the striking representation of chiaroscuro. The tonal distribution in the image suits impressionism better than abstract cubist forms. I am happy to be able to manage all these styles, with surrealism. I hope to leave a distinct mark on these three and people will be able to recognize it. Presentation

Corné Akkers was born in 1969 in Nijmegen, Netherlands. He grew up in a Bohemian environment, during the 70's. This ideal creative atmosphere inspired him and gave him the desire to paint. He trained in painting and drawing.

In his paintings, the artist explores the nude and portrait with several types of analysis and treatments, and doesn't lose sight on how light plays an important role. He combines the figurative style and the quest for abstraction, he plays around with colors and creates vast optical illusions. Not only is his work unique, his paintings shout out cubism but also surrealism and fauvism. They are so hypnotic that they are able to capture the look.

While working as a painter, Akkers also teach art at Voorburg in Netherlands. His paintings have been exhibited several times and sold to art collectors, all around the world.
