Description

Consecutive drawing This graphite drawing 'Delft – 24-03-23' follows directly the previous one. In my artistic statement accompanying it, I have already said something about the purpose of the visit. After visiting the Prinsenhof, we went to the Beestenmarkt a little. I ate the most incredible pizza I have ever eaten there. Trip advisor: visit Bar Kil the next time you explore all the bars and restaurants there. Whatever, after dinner, we walked back to the parking lot near the central station. Crossing the Oude Delft canal, I saw the Oude Jan on the right. This drawing marks this precise spot. An attractive composition My love for water reflections, I have often proclaimed, and it was there: the old church reflected in a distorted way. There must have been ducks or geese disturbing the water. They created the most wonderful series of water ripples. Even if the sun had disappeared and the trees were not yet in foliage, the landscape attracted my attention. Particularly the round structures of the undulating water contrasting with the triangular structure of the canal towards the vanishing point. There, a sort of devil composition, a double church, and rounded water shapes. Focus It was a challenge to render the buildings in an impression just without overproducing them too much. After all, I wanted to emphasize the reflections and not the architecture. Erasing the windows and rebates with hatched lines in graphite proved difficult. Using a pencil eraser or an electric eraser can be tedious. However, I managed to get rid of the undesirable stains they created in the end. I even managed to add impressionist bicycles and a small car on the right. Two people on the left indicate the height of the buildings and the width of the canal. Finally, the Oude Jan is slightly unbalanced. This is for all art lovers who take the time to read my artistic statement. I await the comments from viewers who have not read it. Corné Akkers

Netherlands  • 1969

Presentation

Corné Akkers was born in 1969 in Nijmegen, Netherlands. He grew up in a Bohemian environment, during the 70's. This ideal creative atmosphere inspired him and gave him the desire to paint. He trained in painting and drawing.

In his paintings, the artist explores the nude and portrait with several types of analysis and treatments, and doesn't lose sight on how light plays an important role. He combines the figurative style and the quest for abstraction, he plays around with colors and creates vast optical illusions. Not only is his work unique, his paintings shout out cubism but also surrealism and fauvism. They are so hypnotic that they are able to capture the look.

While working as a painter, Akkers also teach art at Voorburg in Netherlands. His paintings have been exhibited several times and sold to art collectors, all around the world.
