Collector’s Guide

GEORGES SAULTERRE was born in Italy in 1943 in Conegliano , not far from Venice , in a poor family from the nobility.

In Paris , after classical studies, he took courses at the School of Applied Arts , where he learned the basics of sculpture and materials, as well as architecture, from the great masters Antoniucci Volti and Jean-André Cante.

Saulterre presents his early works during his first exhibitions of paintings and sculptures in prestigious places in Paris: Hilton Paris Opéra , Galerie Suzanne Barrant place des Vosges in Paris. He met with immediate success, sold all his works in a few days and bought a ruined 12th century castle, the Château de Piégros in Piégros-la-Clastre , in the Drôme department .

HIGHWAYS AND ROUTES OF FRANCE

Following his reflection on the visual perception that we have when traveling the major motorways, he has the idea of taking advantage of this wide angle to install monumental sculptures and thus offer travelers a new approach to Culture. in public space. The first work to be undertaken will be Le Héron cendré, 8.50 meters high on the Chartres / Orléans motorway in 1978.

Impressed by Chartres Cathedral , in 1989 he proposed a new sculpture 21 meters high: The Spiers of the Cathedrals , which will appear in the Guinness World Records . Following in the footsteps of the Vikings , Le Signal des Alpes, At the dawn of time (winner of the international competition) will follow.

China

Attracted by Asian art, he was spotted by various Chinese galleries and opened his own store, Espace Saulterre in Shanghai . He will make some monumental sculptures for the city, such as a Goddess in the French Quarter, then Angel and glorious turtle installed in Jing'an Park and the Joséphines, symbol of the free and sporting woman .

For the inauguration of Art and Culture Chanel of the SMG group, in 2008 he created a sculpture 5 meters high on the theme of The Creation of the World. In 2015 Solar Eruption, monumental sculpture in stainless steel casting for the high-tech sculpture park in Qingdao .

Georges Saulterre's art has been the subject of numerous awards, both in France and internationally. Thus, he notably received the first prize for European Sculpture in 2006, the gold medal from the Academy of Arts, Sciences and Letters in 2011 as well as an Award for his work in China, dedicated by the Shanghai Media Group . His activity as a sculptor has also led him to organize exhibitions, as in 2010 during the Yiming Min exhibition, for which he was curator.

His works, mainly visible in the public space are also exhibited in many museums, such as the MoMa in New York, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Qingdao (China), the Dingli Museum of Contemporary Art in Xiamen (China) or still the crystal museum of Nancy (France).
