Animals in Art
We've all heard the expressions. Dogs as man's best friend and pets as family members. When it comes to the age-old debate between our preferences for dogs versus cats, no one can ever come to an agreement. One thing is for sure, these furry friends have become a firm part of our domestic lives and we could not imagine life without them. As art reflects our daily lives, a canine and feline presence in art is widespread. For several centuries now, artists have been depicting dogs and cats in their compositions.
Not always cute and cuddly, cats and dogs have been translated as symbols of fidelity, as omens of luck or even as allusions to witchcraft. Their existence as symbols has a complicated and rich history within the art realm that largely depends on where you are in the world as to how you view them. Dogs and cats have come to have an important place in contemporary art with artists such as M.Chat and BB.Queen keenly featuring them.
