Description

A launch This pastel drawing 'Model Session – 01-23-24' is the first I have drawn live in a long time. Probably last year I think and it was spring if I remember correctly. After that I did some large oil paintings and autumn 2023 was dedicated to redesigning my website. Obviously, it was time to launch a new season of live model drawings. Fortunately for me and all the people present during the session, I had a wonderful model called 'Yulliana'. Location: 'De Blauwe Tram', a well-equipped studio and community center in Leidschendam. Practicing my skills The live model sketches from last year did not seem particularly interesting to me. Of course, they were not made to be published or sold in general. In fact, the last one worth publishing was my pastel drawing from late 2021. Most of them, I consider them just practice of my skills, nothing more. Once I sold a drawing from a live session however. Wouldn't that be great? Just creating all day, surrounded by models and selling the works on the same day you made them? I am realistic, that will not happen anytime soon. Lucian Freud did oil paintings live even if he did not finish them in one day. However, the dream persists. Klimt and Rodin surrounded themselves with several models every day. It is a luxury that I unfortunately cannot afford. Pastel in Blue It must certainly be the first block of pastel paper Clairfontaine Ingres that I have used in ages. I must say that I am quite happy. The first pose I made on yellowish paper with sanguine but the second pose pleased me more. For some strange reason, the first drawing is always a failure just like the first pancake. The second time, I found the trick. To limit myself, I decided to use only black and white on blue paper. I kept the focus on the head and the upper part of her body with a few white accents. I kept her lower part quite simple, sketched so to speak. A magnificent model and I hope she will react positively to my invitations in the near future. Presentation

Corné Akkers was born in 1969 in Nijmegen, Netherlands. He grew up in a Bohemian environment, during the 70's. This ideal creative atmosphere inspired him and gave him the desire to paint. He trained in painting and drawing.

In his paintings, the artist explores the nude and portrait with several types of analysis and treatments, and doesn't lose sight on how light plays an important role. He combines the figurative style and the quest for abstraction, he plays around with colors and creates vast optical illusions. Not only is his work unique, his paintings shout out cubism but also surrealism and fauvism. They are so hypnotic that they are able to capture the look.

While working as a painter, Akkers also teach art at Voorburg in Netherlands. His paintings have been exhibited several times and sold to art collectors, all around the world.
