Description
Relaxation time This graphite drawing of 'Lulu' – 21-07-23 is certain proof of a true and eternal obsession. However, she is not in danger. My love for her is gentle and, anyway, she is out of my category. In fact, she is from my grandmother's generation. That does not mean she does not live forever. She does and that is why I continue to represent her, without the slightest discovery of this pretty photo. After the last one, which was her portrait, I wanted to try something new. The majority of her photos online show her iconic pose with the bob cut and the rigid gaze. This time, I wanted her to relax a little. After all, the girl had a difficult life. Why wouldn't I let her lie down this time? Added value The reference photo was attractive because of its tonal play. Just my slice of the pie of course. The outfit she is wearing is brilliantly shimmering just like the fringes of the sofa she is lying on. The key question is what I could attribute to what was not there initially? One must know, artists strive to give value to what already exists. Representing something by simple copy is not at all fun. I want to bring something without becoming pedantic of course. Examining the photo, I quickly realized that I could not make too many Cubist abstractions, only a little. That is how it happened, I suppose. I think I succeeded in slipping in some abstract shapes. For example by letting her arm flow into the seat of the long armchair. Attentive observers Dark and sharp linear structures also did the trick, but what after? I found that the amount of my added value was a little neglected. Then, I had the idea of making two portraits, hidden in the drawing. The trick was not to make them stand out too much, just enough to be able to spot them. I think attentive observers will be able to detect them eventually. Why not? Presentation
Corné Akkers was born in 1969 in Nijmegen, Netherlands. He grew up in a Bohemian environment, during the 70's. This ideal creative atmosphere inspired him and gave him the desire to paint. He trained in painting and drawing.
In his paintings, the artist explores the nude and portrait with several types of analysis and treatments, and doesn't lose sight on how light plays an important role. He combines the figurative style and the quest for abstraction, he plays around with colors and creates vast optical illusions. Not only is his work unique, his paintings shout out cubism but also surrealism and fauvism. They are so hypnotic that they are able to capture the look.
While working as a painter, Akkers also teach art at Voorburg in Netherlands. His paintings have been exhibited several times and sold to art collectors, all around the world.
