Description
In Music, Ruslan Kolomiyets immortalizes one of the most beloved cultural icons of the late 20th century: the cassette tape. Executed in tempera with meticulous attention to detail, the painting depicts the Sony EF90, a symbol familiar to millions of music lovers worldwide. With its bold blue band, handwritten-style typography, and transparent reels, the cassette emerges as a powerful emblem of nostalgia.
More than just an object, the cassette tape represented freedom of choice, self-expression, and the intimacy of recorded sound. Whether used for mixtapes, personal recordings, or sharing favorite songs with friends, it was central to the rituals of growing up in the 1980s and 1990s. Kolomiyets’ rendering captures this sentiment with precision, elevating the cassette to a work of art that embodies the memory of a generation.
Music bridges personal and cultural memory, highlighting how even the simplest objects can carry profound meaning across decades. It is a piece that speaks both to the heart of nostalgia and to the collector’s appreciation of contemporary realism.
