Description
Inspired by an archival black-and-white photograph, The Great Hall reimagines a historical urban space as a universal symbol of modern life rather than a portrait of one particular location. Ruslan Kolomiyets transforms documentary imagery into a contemporary reflection on architecture, memory and the collective rhythm of the city.
At 180x200 cm, the painting surrounds the viewer with an immersive architectural environment where monumental structures and flowing human movement become inseparable. The monochrome palette enhances the timeless quality of the composition, recalling early photography while emphasising rhythm, light and scale.
Poised between admiration for modern progress and contemplation of its human cost, the work reflects on the optimism of the industrial age and the quiet anonymity of life within great public spaces. It is ultimately less about a building than about civilisation itself.
