Description
40 mm is Ruslan Kolomiyets’ stark yet contemplative reflection on the Ukrainian–Russian war. The composition focuses on the remnant of a 40 mm rocket shell resting on the ground, surrounded by earth tones and fractured light. Rather than dramatize destruction, Kolomiyets presents the fragment as a symbol – quiet, almost peaceful, yet heavy with implication.
The restrained palette of deep greens, muted browns, and subtle flashes of metallic blue emphasizes the stillness of the moment. By giving painterly attention to an object of violence, the artist transforms it into a meditation on fragility, memory, and the sudden shifts that alter the course of life overnight.
Kolomiyets joins the long tradition of artists who record not only the events of war but also its silent aftermath – the overlooked traces that carry their own haunting power. For collectors, 40 mm offers a work at once minimalist and profound, merging realistic detail with layered meaning.
