“A Table in Bloom": A Vibrant Original Floral Still Life in a Contemporary Expressionist, Metamodern Style by French Artist Natalya Mougenot

This original mixed media painting (50 × 65 cm / 19.7 × 25.6 in), created with acrylic paint and acrylic pen on heavyweight, professional, acid-free French paper and sealed with varnish, is part of Natalya Mougenot's ongoing still life series, exploring the vitality of floral composition through expressive gesture and color.

Blending the emotional intensity of contemporary expressionism with the reflective openness of metamodern painting, Mougenot's practice navigates a subtle balance between spontaneity and structure, abstraction and figuration. In A Table in Bloom, the table becomes a dynamic pictorial space—an arena where color, rhythm, and form interact in a vibrant visual dialogue.

At the heart of the composition, a generous bouquet of red blossoms unfolds in an upward movement, their rounded forms echoing across the surface like a rhythmic refrain.

Mougenot's visible brushwork and gestural marks are central to the work's presence. Rather than concealing the artist's hand, she foregrounds it—embracing texture, immediacy, and imperfection as a conscious response to an era increasingly shaped by digital and AI-generated imagery. Each mark becomes a trace of lived experience, reaffirming painting as a deeply human act.

Her artistic philosophy underscores this approach:

“I believe in the liberty of expression. I do not seek perfection or realism on canvas; I search for beauty in imperfection, freedom in color, and the courage to go beyond limits."

“I believe only in authenticity, as viewers will always feel whether an artwork is true or false."

“For me, capturing raw emotion is the highest priority, ensuring the work pulses with life rather than existing as a static, lifeless image."

The palette—vivid reds, luminous greens, deep blues, and fresh yellow accents—creates a sense of joyful tension, reinforcing the painting's immediacy and vitality.

"A Table in Bloom" is conceived for collectors seeking more than ornamentation. It stands as a distinctive statement piece for contemporary interiors and curated spaces, appealing to those drawn to expressive floral painting and to the enduring presence of the artist's hand.
