Description

Interesting synthesis This graphite drawing 'Neo Deco – 08-03-24' is another homage to the Art Deco domain. To be precise, I dedicate this to the photographer Walter Bird whose series 'Beauty's Daughters' is breathtaking. Again because I have already been inspired by some of his works as motifs for my drawings. In fact, last month. Thus, the Neo Deco series becomes an interesting synthesis of elements of Art Deco, cubism, roundness, and surrealism. However, for some motifs I add more value than others. The last one of Cleopatra came more from my mind than this one. Sometimes, you simply have to let your original splendor shine. Serving as a service-hatch of the Art Deco era to the modern times, I find comfort in it. Adaptations There was a bit of cubist style and abstraction. Especially in the shadowed sections I omitted the visible pores exposed by the oily skin. Finally, I moved away from the photo at the end. The head and neck seemed a bit elongated compared to its chest. This could have been caused by the model leaning towards the camera and the deformation created by the camera lens. Moreover, people had a shorter back at the time, so the head-to-body ratio was a bit different. That is why I made the head a bit smaller. I also made the area between the shoulder and the jaw a bit darker. Unfortunately, an interesting swirl I created in the back became an obstacle. Such is the life of an artist sometimes. Clever plan Regarding the lighting this Neo Deco variety resembles 'Cubist Study after Lauren Albin Guillot – 18-10-23'. Another great photographer from the same era. These chiaroscuro lighting setups are my favorites. They inspire me to take photos of my models in this way. There is a clever plan in my mind that persists however. My secret wish is to sell many prints and prints of this and to buy a large studio with a lot of equipment. Then I can adjust the lamps and light better in a larger space than the one I have now in my small apartment. Will you help me execute my plan? Presentation

Corné Akkers was born in 1969 in Nijmegen, Netherlands. He grew up in a Bohemian environment, during the 70's. This ideal creative atmosphere inspired him and gave him the desire to paint. He trained in painting and drawing.

In his paintings, the artist explores the nude and portrait with several types of analysis and treatments, and doesn't lose sight on how light plays an important role. He combines the figurative style and the quest for abstraction, he plays around with colors and creates vast optical illusions. Not only is his work unique, his paintings shout out cubism but also surrealism and fauvism. They are so hypnotic that they are able to capture the look.

While working as a painter, Akkers also teach art at Voorburg in Netherlands. His paintings have been exhibited several times and sold to art collectors, all around the world.
