Description

Aspect Solarisé This graphite pencil drawing 'Neo-Deco – 09-04-24' is the first after some drawings in pastel. Captured by my oil painting in progress, I maintained the publication rhythm with some sketches of live models. Meanwhile, I had this work in progress and I had no idea what to do with it. So every time at Brugmann where I teach, I worked on it, little by little. Originally, I had something surreal in mind. Soon, I changed the arrangement and decided to opt for another solarized aspect. In fact, my latest work 'Sands Time – 23-03-24' resembles this one a bit. The fact is that I did not want to lose the brilliant shadow patterns on the model's body. Some patterns and especially the lighting are good enough to be celebrated by a certain artistic imposition. Willy Zielke The drawing is inspired by a 1930s photo by Willy Zielke. Recently, I looked again online looking for photos of the art deco era. Some photos at night stood out because of the sharp lighting he used. Certainly my kind of thing, so to speak. My addition to the scene is the aforementioned solarization and the thick linear outlines. My goal was to create contrasts between soft and abrupt tonal transitions. I also let the body vaporize in the negative space. You can see it on the left arm, above the right chest, and on the leg. This way all the contrasts are present. There is light against darkness, soft transitions against hard and angular against rounded. Personally, I like the hair strands the best. They look funny and strange in solarized form. Presentation

Corné Akkers was born in 1969 in Nijmegen, Netherlands. He grew up in a Bohemian environment, during the 70's. This ideal creative atmosphere inspired him and gave him the desire to paint. He trained in painting and drawing.

In his paintings, the artist explores the nude and portrait with several types of analysis and treatments, and doesn't lose sight on how light plays an important role. He combines the figurative style and the quest for abstraction, he plays around with colors and creates vast optical illusions. Not only is his work unique, his paintings shout out cubism but also surrealism and fauvism. They are so hypnotic that they are able to capture the look.

While working as a painter, Akkers also teach art at Voorburg in Netherlands. His paintings have been exhibited several times and sold to art collectors, all around the world.
