Pascal Lee, Arrival At Mars - Noctis Landing In Sight

About the artwork

Artwork sold in perfect condition

A Mars Transfer Vehicle (MTV) arrives at the Red Planet, with its two small moons, Phobos and Deimos, in view as two tiny specks of light. The Noctis Landing human landing site at the western end of Valles Marineris is also in sight. The MTV uses nuclear thermal rocket propulsion. The large red-orange fuel tanks contain liquid hydrogen. As the spaceship closes in in silence, I imagine the crew on board elated to finally see Mars up close after months of coasting through the void of interplanetary space. Noctis Landing is the landing site and exploration zone my research team is proposing for the first human landing and an outpost on Mars. Signed by the artist at lower right and on the back. Artist's label affixed on the back. Framed by the artist in a wooden frame painted glossy black by the artist. Frame is easy to remove.

I am a planetary scientist who loves to draw and paint. My artwork is about space and time, and our tiny yet hopeful place in their vastness. I draw and paint about our distant past, events we've survived, our profound cosmic loneliness, and where we might go from here.

Mars is the challenge of our time. Humans going to Mars will be greatest adventure in space exploration this century. Beyond Mars, we will journey to Saturn's moon, Titan, and one day, to the stars and deep into spacetime.

I have in my garage a primitive spacetime machine in which I can, at considerable risk, visit distant worlds and other epochs. My artwork is the travel log.
