Carl Jung's vision of the human psyche implies the inexhaustible possibility to reconsider all mythologies as cultural manifestations of the collective unconscious.

Therefore, gods and demons emerge as epiphanies of archetypes: primordial constitutive images common to all humanity, regardless of time and place, which manifest symbolically in dreams, illusions, gods and myths of all cultures.

Various archetypes have been constructed in Jungian psychology from Greco-Roman mythology. Indeed, a myriad of images, personality traits and psychological traits derive from this richly illustrated and celebrated pantheon.

The Omnipresence series looks at Greco-Roman mythology through the lens of photographic collage. It reflects on the archetypal substance of several deities, and offers an image of our contemporary reality created by the digital superposition of images.

Ceres / Demeter: a mother goddess, the fertility of the Earth embodied in grains, as the very foundation of culture. 90% of the human diet is based on three main cereal crops domesticated for millennia: rice, corn and wheat.

Neptune / Poseidon: god of the oceans, impetuous, invasive and violent. About 80% of the planet is covered by his dominions, and our subsistence depends on them to a large extent. Nevertheless, pollution, overexploitation and overheating of the oceans on a global scale are leading to the loss of its fishery resources.

Venus / Aphrodite: the goddess of beauty, sexual attraction and love. In this globalized world of unprecedented human migration, our diversity is increasing as interethnic and intercultural relationships develop. The images correspond to people of mixed ancestry during the climax of orgasm.

Bacchus / Dionysus: the god of tragedy, ecstasy and intoxication. Every culture throughout the world has used some or many of the countless intoxicating methods and resources that lead to the epiphany of the Divine. The images presented are based on a study of psychotropic drug use among young students - ages 13 to 18 - in Spain.

Artemis / Diana: the goddess of virgin forests and wild animals. She is the archetypal environmentalist who warns us about the loss of forests. The images correspond to the oldest trees on the planet, whose very existence is seriously threatened.

Antonio Briceño

Venezuela Born in: 1966

Antonio Briceño is one of Venezuela's most important photographic artists, whose central theme is the human being in his environment. He transforms the cosmogony and mythology of Latin American indigenous peoples into a subjective iconography that emerges from the dialogue between contemporary art and ethnology and the medium of photography.
