The Siren within, 2020

Maria Daniel Balcazar

This evocative archival pigment print captures a moment of profound stillness. A figure floats submerged in dark water. The composition blends human form with the natural world. A fish rests against the skin. Fingers grasp the scales with a gentle yet firm touch. The black and white palette emphasizes the liquid textures. Light ripples across the surface. These distortions create a dreamlike veil over the scene. The image explores themes of ritual and coexistence. It suggests a deep, silent bond between the body and the aquatic environment. Every curve of the water mirrors the contours of the flesh. The contrast highlights the tactile quality of the encounter. This artwork reflects a commitment to documentary observation infused with poetic memory. It transforms a physical act into a timeless meditation on identity and survival. The gaze is hidden. The focus remains on the physical connection. The scene ends in the deep shadows of the water.
