I was my own Path, 2016

Maria Daniel Balcazar

A haunting monochrome composition. A lone figure in white stands amidst a primordial landscape. The contrast is stark. Deep shadows swallow the foreground. Massive, twisting roots carve through the earth like ancient veins. They create a rhythmic architecture of nature. The light falls softly on the subject. This creates a focal point of purity against a dark, textured backdrop.
The image blends documentary precision with a poetic sensibility. It evokes themes of resilience and cultural survival. There is a profound sense of stillness. The atmosphere feels timeless. The figure appears as a ghost or a guardian within the cavernous environment. This tension between the human presence and the overwhelming scale of nature suggests a deep spiritual connection.
Created in 2019, this archival pigment print captures a moment of quiet endurance. The composition leads the eye from the chaotic organic lines of the roots toward the luminous center. Every texture is rendered with expert clarity. The result is a visual meditation on identity and memory. The artwork concludes with the sharp detail of the rocky cliffside framing the scene.
