Description

Solarize it again This graphite pencil drawing 'Solarized Roundism – 02-03-23' follows another bearing the same name. You see, I understood well. I am totally in love with my largest blue velvet sheet. I really feel that the folds add to the taste because they contrast magnificently with the model's skin. Furthermore, the heavy tonal gradations create an exciting rhythm, imposed by the solarization process. It gives me new shapes that still remain detectable as fabric. It is because I experimented with the solarization level incrementally until I obtained the best of both worlds. Not too much, not too little. Something in the middle, I suppose. The model sessions with my usual model have become a kind of photoshoot. The main reason is that I do not want to spend my time practicing sketching by hand. This is due to the cost of such a session. It is simply a waste of money if I only draw her portrait. The drawing can even do without it. Sometimes, I even get something sellable from it. However, it is a poor return on investment, so I take hundreds of photos of her. Then I use a kind of 'posture storybook' that I invented or that inspired me, after finding them online. So I saw one that was simply brilliant and I even blamed myself for not having invented it myself. Zig-Zag Model It is a posture I saw once of a woman forming a zigzag pattern with her limbs. Which could be seen through her legs. It is dynamic, sensual but also strong and bold. So I asked her to pose exactly like that. After a few adjustments, I got the right posture. Her skin separates again on the surprisingly matte velvet. And there, the right kind of contrast with the shimmer of the fabrics. I only had to record it with my pencil. There is a certain cubist style however as part of the initial installation. I decided to keep them as the last time. Therefore, the viewer will be reminded of my added abstraction rather than recording something photographic. Presentation

Corné Akkers was born in 1969 in Nijmegen, Netherlands. He grew up in a Bohemian environment, during the 70's. This ideal creative atmosphere inspired him and gave him the desire to paint. He trained in painting and drawing.

In his paintings, the artist explores the nude and portrait with several types of analysis and treatments, and doesn't lose sight on how light plays an important role. He combines the figurative style and the quest for abstraction, he plays around with colors and creates vast optical illusions. Not only is his work unique, his paintings shout out cubism but also surrealism and fauvism. They are so hypnotic that they are able to capture the look.

While working as a painter, Akkers also teach art at Voorburg in Netherlands. His paintings have been exhibited several times and sold to art collectors, all around the world.
