Description
Space opens up to an abstract horizon. Ocher and orange tones dominate the composition. They evoke a diffuse, almost atmospheric warmth.
The gaze is guided by dark vertical lines. These lines structure the plane and create a mysterious depth. The work on the material brings a tactile dimension to the surface.
The artist uses acrylic and chalk on paper. These materials intertwine to produce vaporous gradients. The chromatic transitions are fluid. They move from the fire of the center to the darkness of the edges.
A shower of black pigments punctuates the lower part. These splashes bring an organic rhythm to the whole. The composition plays on the contrasts between sharp areas and blurred areas.
This painting dates from 193. It testifies to a research on light and spatial perception. The visual balance rests on the tension between the rigor of the verticals and the freedom of the colored clouds.
Presentation
Jean-Claude Coutaz was born in 1944 in Saint-Maurice VS. He began his studies at the Collège de Saint-Maurice following the classical Latin-English track, continued them at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (EPFL) from which he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering.
It was in 1972 that he settled in Sion with his wife and opened his own engineering office.
JCC began painting in 1980 and since then his technique has continued to evolve.
