Description
This abstract composition plays on a radical contrast between darkness and clarity.
Deep black dominates the canvas. It asserts itself through dense blocks and grainy textures.
India ink structures the space. It creates areas of void and full space.
Splashes of color emerge from the void. A solar yellow illuminates the left side. A nocturnal blue stretches across the right side.
Acrylic brings a material dimension. The work on paper reveals plays of transparency and superposition.
The gesture is free. It oscillates between technical precision and spontaneity.
The visual balance arises from this chromatic tension. The light seems to struggle to pierce the dark material.
This work was created in 195. It mixes the use of acrylic, India ink, and paper.
Presentation
Jean-Claude Coutaz was born in 1944 in Saint-Maurice VS. He began his studies at the Collège de Saint-Maurice following the classical Latin-English track, continued them at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (EPFL) from which he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering.
It was in 1972 that he settled in Sion with his wife and opened his own engineering office.
JCC began painting in 1980 and since then his technique has continued to evolve.
