Description
This abstract composition explores the dialogue between shadow and light. The gaze immerses itself in a space where contrasts confront each other. Dark tones dominate the left side. They create a mysterious, almost organic depth.
Opposite, shades of pale green and white emerge. The material seems to vibrate under the effect of a mastered mixed technique. The artist uses acrylic on paper to obtain grainy textures. The rendering recalls eroded stone or landscapes viewed from the peaks.
The visual balance rests on this play of tensions. The forms are not defined. They suggest a passage, a boundary between two states. The verticality of the format accentuates this sensation of descent or ascent.
The precise execution reveals work on the superposition of layers. Each passage of color adds a tactile dimension to the surface. This painting dates from 2015. It is distinguished by its minimalist approach and restricted palette.
Presentation
Jean-Claude Coutaz was born in 1944 in Saint-Maurice VS. He began his studies at the Collège de Saint-Maurice following the classical Latin-English track, continued them at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (EPFL) from which he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering.
It was in 1972 that he settled in Sion with his wife and opened his own engineering office.
JCC began painting in 1980 and since then his technique has continued to evolve.
