Description
This geometric composition explores rigor and lightness. The artist deploys a network of fine lines in India ink on a clean white background.
The drawing is organized around an inclined grid. This structure evokes a suspended net or a mathematical grid in full mutation.
The void occupies a central place. It frames the motif and accentuates the impression of spatial expansion.
Some colored segments come to break the monotony of the black line. Touches of yellow, ochre, and blue are placed with precision in the squares.
These chromatic accents create a subtle visual rhythm. They guide the eye through the framework with calculated subtlety.
The precision of the line testifies to a methodical and analytical approach. The balance between the strict structure and the breath of the paper brings immediate serenity.
The paper welcomes this work created in 192. A signature and a date appear discreetly in the bottom right of the sheet.
Presentation
Jean-Claude Coutaz was born in 1944 in Saint-Maurice VS. He began his studies at the Collège de Saint-Maurice following the classical Latin-English track, continued them at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (EPFL) from which he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering.
It was in 1972 that he settled in Sion with his wife and opened his own engineering office.
JCC began painting in 1980 and since then his technique has continued to evolve.
