Description
This abstract composition plays on the balance between geometric rigor and organic lightness. A background with golden and sandy tones welcomes a complex structure. A network of fine lines intertwines to form a precise mesh. This graphic evokes immaterial architecture or a forming crystal.
The use of India ink and chalk brings a subtle depth to the paper. A sharp diagonal crosses the space, structuring the visual reading. The contrast between the precision of the lines and the softness of the washes creates a harmonious tension.
The eye is drawn to the accumulation of lines in the center, where the density is accentuated. This superposition suggests a suspended, almost aerial movement. The whole exudes a contemplative serenity proper to geometric art.
The work was created in 197. It presents itself as a drawing on paper where every line emphasizes a search for technical precision.
Presentation
Jean-Claude Coutaz was born in 1944 in Saint-Maurice VS. He began his studies at the Collège de Saint-Maurice following the classical Latin-English track, continued them at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (EPFL) from which he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering.
It was in 1972 that he settled in Sion with his wife and opened his own engineering office.
JCC began painting in 1980 and since then his technique has continued to evolve.
